Ginger topped midfielder Làszló Kleinheisler, aka 'Scholes', typified a confident start from Puskàs Akadémia Videoton when he set striker Balázs Vakulya free on the left side of the penalty area for a clear sight of goal but his shot was disappointingly wide of the target.
Vakulya would rue that miss minutes later when Real took the lead, Pedro Palacios' header from a corner by Jorge Candela crashing past László Mikola in the host team's goal. Real went two goals up after 19 minutes when Carlos Esposito's pass to the right gave Candela the chance to beat Mikola at his
near post from 15 metres. It could even have been three in the 25th minute but Omar Gonzalez's audacious turn and volley from fully 30 metres out flew narrowly wide.
The match was firmly in Real's hands at this point but they couldn't quite find that killer goal before half time, Exposito coming closest when his blockbuster effort into the far right corner of the net was ruled out for offside.
In the second half it looked for a while for a while as if Puskàs Akadémia Videoton might regain a foothold in the game. First, substitute Zsolt Gajdos dragged an effort wide of the left post from 20 metres and then fellow substitute Dávid Szabó's early shot when clean through flew high over the
bar.
The hosts finally got their reward for an improved second half display at the hour mark when a lovely passing move ended with rightback Patrik Cziránku advancing into the Real Madrid penalty area and crashing the ball inside goalkeeper David Solis' near post.
Real nearly reestablished their two goal lead straightaway when Candela broke through but Mikola did well to get out quickly, smother the shot and grab the ball at the second attempt. Mikola again rescued his side on 65 minutes when Xavier Velasco's long free kick was headed back across goal for
Palacios to head at goal but the host goalkeeper blocked the ball and it was cleared.
The game's defining moment then took place in the 66th minute when central defender Zsolt Tar was dismissed for a foul on Real's Exposito when one on one. Three minutes later Real had restored their cushion when Angel Cabezali exchanged passes with Exposito and rounded the goalkeeper to slot
into an empty net.
The host's hopes were raised again though when Szabó sprung the Madrid offside trap and squared the ball for Gajdos to tap into an empty net, but Real then scored a fourth to seal the win, a cross from the left being knocked down for Miguel Gomez to shoot low past Mikola into the centre of the
goal. Puskàs Akadémia Videoton's Mikola then kept the score respectable by clawing away the marvellous Exposito's rising shot when one on one with the keeper.
