Puskás Academy U17's head coach József Csuhay needed to make several changes to the starting lineup that faced Real Madrid yesterday, Zsolt Tar being suspended for one game after his dismissal against Real while Balázs Vakulya and Máté Papp were ruled out due to illness and an ankle injury respectively.
Both sides paid each other plenty of respect out the outset, so much so that it was not until the 24th minute that either goalkeeper was seriously threatenened. However, it was at this point that Videoton Puskás Akadémia took the lead when a right-wing corner from Zsolt Gajdos was headed into the far corner by Dávid Kiprich.
After the goal the Greek team attacked more and created a chance for Giannitsanis but his header flew over the bar from five metres out. László Kleinheisler then had a similar opportunity at the other end from Patrik Cziránku's cross but his header was saved by the keeper. A minute later Puskás Academy goalkeeper saved well from another Giannitsanis header and five minutes after that blocked a shot while on the six-yard line. Everyone was now waiting for that half-time whistle as it was only rarely that the hosts could break free from Pana's pressing.
The injured Cziránku was unable to continue in the second period so again Csuhay needed to shuffle his pack and unfortunately this upheaval saw a swift equaliser for Panathinaikos, a long ball from the kickk-off finding Andreopoulos to shoot fiercely past Mikola from 22 metres.
Csuhay's team could have regained the lead minutes later though when Dávid Szabó's cross was met by the arriving Attila Németh but he shot narrowly wide. He was to regret his miss as well when from the very next attack the Greeks edged in front through Giannisanis' second goal.
To their credit though the home side fought back and drew level after Ádám Galambos' corner was only half-cleared and Kiprich blasted home his second. With a quarter of an hour left Panathinaikos though again took the lead, Apostopoulos curling home a free-kick from 18 metres out just before being substituted.
Despite straightaway forcing a corner the Puskás Academy could not grab an equaliser and instead it was the visitors who scored again, Giannisanis unselfishly squaring the ball to Mouzakitis to direct his shot into the top-left corner from close range. In the last minute Péter Hosszú saw his free-kick saved by Panathinaikos' goalkeeper to leave the result standing at the same as the Academy's defeat to Real yesterday; 4-2.
These twin defeats leave Csuhay's team rooted in third place in Group A and certain of a 5th/6th place play-off match on Monday. Panathinaikos meanwhile will play Real Madrid tomorrow for a place in Monday's PUSKÁS-SUZUKI CUP Final.
