Last year's Player of the Tournament Spiridon Furlanos says

"PANA WILL BE FINALISTS!"

2011. április 05.

The PUSKÁS-SUZUKI CUP 2010's Most Valuable Player has signed his first professional footballer's contract, is training with the Panathinaikos first team and is now preparing with the Greece Under-19 national team for May's Elite round of the European Championship qualifying stages. Last year's participation in the PUSKÁS-SUZUKI CUP ranks amongst the best experiences in his life so far for Spiridon Furlanos; now he recalls his memories and picks out two of this year's crop to watch out for.

In the group stages Pana can exact revenge over Honvéd for last edition's defeat in the final while we can't really say much about the other opponent, tournament debutants the Hagi Academy. How do you see the chances?

Every year the teams that come to the PUSKÁS-SUZUKI CUP matches are strong. I'm not exaggerating if I say this year if will be as similarly exciting as last time. Honvéd are very strong; last year we could feel all over our skins how hard an opponent they were. I don't know the Hagi Academy but I have no doubts they have come to Hungary to win. Independent of this though Panathinaikos retain the best of chances to progress to the final.

How do you remember last year's tournament? You lost in the final but you personally were awarded the tournament's best player award.
It's difficult to forget last year's Cup! Not without reason either, because I became Player of the Tournament and because I split my head open in the final. All things considered I enjoyed what it was. The organizers took care of our every wish, so, brilliant, the PUSKÁS-SUZUKI CUP was a unique experience in my life!

Now we'll see the current U17 squad! Who is the best Pana player?
Our current Under 17 squad is very good, full of exceptional players amongst whom Nikos Giannitsannis and Diamantis Huhumis are particularly impressive. It will not be easy against them!

And how is your development going? Which age group are you playing in now?
Now that I've received a professional contract I am playing in the Under 20 squad, but I train with the first team. I am very satisfied with my year so far and am working hard to continually improve and to realise my dream; to make my debut for the Panathinaikos first team! Additionally, in May the Greece Under 19 national team will play in Slovakia in the Elite round of matches for European Championship quaification. I'm not bored!
