Pondering the rules and chances before the last day of the group stages

If Fradi win 1-0...

2011. április 23.

Budapesti Honvéd, with two Group B victories, are already assured of a place in Monday's final. In the race for second place in their group the Hagi Academy are in a slightly better position than Panathinaikos because even a draw will be enough to finish ahead of the Greeks on goal difference. The PUSKÁS-SUZUKI CUP's competition rules are clearly laid down. The placings within each group are decided based on the following criteria: point difference, goal difference, goals scored, penalty shootout victory  and finally the fair play table. Therefore if Real win or draw then they definitely qualify as Group A winners (and in this case our team would finish second), however, if Fradi win then all sorts of results are still possible. If Ferencváros win 2-1 or by a greater goals margin then the green and whites will finish first, Puskás Academy second and Real third. However if Fradi score three goals or more but only win by a one-goal margin (3-2, 4-3, 5-4...etc) then we will slide into third place due to goals scored and the penalty shootout loss against Real. Therefore, tomorrow we'll be nervously cheering for Fradi, but not too vociferously; just so they win 1-0...
