PUSKAS-SUZUKI CUP ends with award ceremony

Honvéd's Vólent takes top player award

14th June 2009.

Budapest Honvéd forward Roland Vólent today won the PUSKÁS-SUZUKI CUP award for the tournament's best player despite not being able to add to his goal tally in his final two games.
Vólent, who has already appeared three times for the adult Honvéd team this season, probably has his startling hat-trick against Real Madrid CF in the opening match of this year's competition to thank for his award, but it can be also stated that in the games against Panathinaikos and Ferencváros his fellow forwards were afforded more space than they would perhaps normally expect, such was the preoccupation with making sure Vólent couldn't use his pace and strength to the same devastating effect he had in the Real contest.

The Goalkeeper of the Tournament award went to Martin Lach of SK SLovan Bratislava and deservedly so after a string of fine performances culminating in his excellent display of shotstopping against Real Madrid in the 3rd/4th place play-off match, without which his team may have suffered a much heavier loss.

Meanwhile the competition's top goalscorer award was claimed by Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata Martin, whose two hat-tricks against Honvéd and Slovan meant he finished three goals clear of his nearest rivals Vólent and Levente Horváth of eventual tournament winners Ferencváros.

All three recipients of individual awards were presented with brand new iPhones as a special prize as well as certificates signed by Mrs Ferenc Puskás and Mr Viktor Orbán, former Prime Minister of Hungary.
