Appearing at the event were Puskás Academy founder Viktor Orbán, the late Ferenc Puskás’ wife Erzsébet, daughter Anikó and granddaughter Elisabeth-Damborena. Hisashi Takeuchi, the Chief Executive Officer of tournament sponsor Suzuki Hungary, spoke of how the company’s support for the competition for a third year in a row underlined its commitment in the direction of football and how he on behalf of Suzuki is proud to sponsor Europe’s most significant youth tournament.
Viktor Orbán, meanwhile, thanked Suzuki for its support and spoke of how thanks to the academy’s work a quick rise for hungarian football can be expected. He continued that academies like this are needed in life and serve to lay the foundations for such a quch and spectacular improvement.

The PUSKÁS-SUZUKI CUP is therefore a significant milestone because the hungarian teams can measure themselves at an international level to see how if their abilities are enough. From our results in competition against foreign academies we see which stage in development has been reached.
At the start of the draw Mr Takeuchi had drawn Madrid from a pot alongside AC Milan to join the host U17 team in Group A. With this it was automatic that Milan would join defending champions Ferencváros in Group B.
Elisabeth Damborena-Puskás then drew the Greek club Panathinaikos to be in Group A alongside Videoton-Puskás Akadémia and Real Madrid, which meant that Budapest Honvéd took the third spot in Group B.
The draw for the official veterans tournament was also made, which as is now traditionally held on the morning of the Cup’s finals day at Székesfehérvár and this year takes place at Easter. It will include teams from Suzuki Hungary and the Puskás Academy together with a number of journalists.
