Milan had started in dominant fashion and went ahead early on when Gianmarco De Feo slipped a pass through for David Speziale to shoot low under goalkeeper Márkó Kolozsvári and open the scoring for the Italians.
Ferencváros slowly worked their way back into the game though and the Budapest side created their first clear chance of the game in the 29th minute, a clever dummy by Roland Ribarics releasing Rasim Hajder but the Fradi forward saw his tentative shot blocked by Milan goalkeeper Emanuele Di Graci. Nine minutes later
Gábor Erdei exchanged passes with the Hungarian team's captain, Gergő Gyürki, before volleying fiercely but narrowly wide from a central position 18 metres out.
Milan finally started to reassert themselves after the half-time break when first Speziale's turn and shot was safely gathered by Kolozsvári and then the tricky De Feo's enterprising run down the right wing was unfortunate not to yield more than just a corner.
However, this Milan squad is a year younger than the others, the players having all been born in 1994, and it was perhaps due to tiredness that they let the game slip from their grasp. Two deep free-kicks from Gyurki in the last ten minutes created panic in the Milan defence and twice Wagner was on-hand to put the ball in the back of the net, once with a volley at the back post and then just four minutes from time with a simple finish seven metres from goal.
Ferencváros will tomorrow play their final group match gainst local Budapest rivals Budapest Honvéd while AC Milan must wait until Sunday's meeting with Honvéd to see if they can claw their way back into contention for the trophy.
