The match participants arrived at
Felcsút just after 11:30am, quickly changing and then warming up. Spectators
slowly began to arrive to hear Dr Viktor
Orbán’s tournament-opening speech and before long the main stand was full with
around 800-900 people, certainly a scarce sight at any normal Felcsút league
match. In his speech Dr Orbán, the Academy’s founder, thanked the sponsors for
their assistance, first and foremost the Magyar Suzuki Cortporation, without whose
help, he said, this tournament would never have come into being.
Following Dr Orbán’s speech the match started. The tempo of the match was
instantly as one would expect from professional teams; lightning-quick passes
and direct attacks led to a beautiful goal for Real Madrid in only the fifth
minute, Francisco Sol’s firing into the Panathinaikos goal with a left-footed
shot. Although the Greek team were more uncertain than their counterparts it
was still fascinating to watch the game. In the 23rd minute Nikolaus Liolos
conceded an own goal to give Real Madrid a two-goal lead but even after that
they never gave up the fight and until the end it was impossible to take one’s
eyes away from the match. In the final minute of the first half the
afore-mentioned Sol finished the scoring by striking another sweet goal from 20
metres, this time with his right foot. Despite a return to the same tempo in
the second half neither side was able to change the score.
„In the first half we attacked as we imagined we would in our dreams and as we knew we could do, but in the second period we were not so lucky in front of goal” summised Sergio Pina Caspedosa, the Real head coach.
