Kyriakos Andreopoulos tucked away the first spotkick in the first minute and his teammate Nikolaos-Iakovos Giannitsanis repeated the feat in the 34th minute before extending the Greek's lead early in the second half when he rounded opposing goalkeeper Vladut Hintascu. The Hagi Academy's Ferdi Ghenciu did pull a goal back with the third penalty of the match but Lampros Thanailakis restored Pana's three-goal lead when he beat the onrushing Hintascu to the ball and rolled it past him into an empty net to finish the scoring.
The game had started in disastrous fashion for the Romanian side when they conceded a penalty in the first minute, Christos Donis being upended and the crime being emphatically punished by Andreopoulos' low penalty into the right corner of the net.
Panathinaikos could have stretched their lead 14 minutes later when Alexandros Mouzakitis received a cutback from the byline but his drive hit a defender and the resulting rebound from Dimitrious Ntagras was tipped around the post by Hintascu.
They did get a two-goal cushion six minutes before half time though when Claudiu Cobzariu fouled Ntagras and Giannitsanis stepped up to fire the spotkick firmly into the bottom left corner of the net.
Eleven minutes into the second period and the lead was extended further when Giannitsanis grabbed his second after running on to a through-ball and knock the ball past Hintascu who had rushed out of his goal. Despite a covering defender the Greek striker was able to expertly guide his shot into the net from a fairly tight angle.
Just a moment later the Hagi Academy finally had something to cheer about when Ghenciu was fouled in the Panathinaikos penalty area and he dusted himself down to convert the spotkick low into the right side of the goal.
Aside from this though the team from Constanca were unable to make any impact on the game and instead it was Pana who had further chances to score, Giannitsanis in particular spurning a chance for his hat-trick when he somehow contrived to head a corner wide when unmarked on the five-metre line. The Hagi Academy's task became even harder when Cobzariu was shown his second yellow card, thereby reducing them to ten men for the last 12 minutes.
Instead it was left to his replacement Thanailakis to finish the scoring when he took advantage of a huge hole in the Hagi Academy defence to run on to Mouzakitis' pass and shoot low first time past Hintascu who had again rushed out of his penalty area in a vain attempt to intercept.
The result means Hagi Academy finish bottom of group B and will play Ferencváros in the 5th/6th place play-off at 13:00 tomorrow in Székesfehérvár, while Panathinaikos will play the Videoton Puskás Akadémia in the bronze medal match immediately afterwards at 15:00.
