The coach of Honvéd U17s, László Szalai, expects a good performance from his players

Hungarian football at stake

10th June 2009.

Ferenc Puskás played for the club that represented the district of Kispest (now Budapest Honvéd) for thirteen years. From 1943 to 1949 the club was called Kispesti AC and after that until 1955 he represented the team known as Budapest Honvéd synonymously.

László Szalai hopes the best for PUSKÁS-SUZUKI CUP

If Honvéd, then Puskás. Now we know that 'if the PUSKÁS-SUZUKI CUP, then Budapest Honvéd' also rings true. Puskás' statistics read 365 goals in just 349 games in Honvéd colours. How many goals today's talent from Kispest will score in the PUSKÁS-SUZUKI CUP matches we don't yet know.
However, it is already known how satisfied László Szalai, the Budapest Under 17 team coach at the Hungarian Football Academy was with the tournament draw. "The draw could not have turned out better for us. It is not every day we can step out onto the pitch with such superb teams as Real Madrid and Panathinaikos". Szalai, the former assistant of Lothar Matthaeus with the Hungarian national team, says there's no point making a declaration on the team's chances. "In Academy football speculating about the chances are absolutely unnecessary. If we start speculating and we acknowledge that Real Madrid and Panathinaikos have the best possibilities from which to select players, then everything is done already. But our responsibility is big because we represent the whole of Hungarian football. It would be good to go further and to win more matches at the PUSKÁS-SUZUKI CUP".
