Enrique Perez Diaz was born on 28 December 1938. An outstanding defender, he played for Real Madrid from 1959 until 1968, primarily as right-back. He savoured two legendary European Cup victories in the same squad as Ferenc Puskás: the famous 7-3 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in 1960 at Hampden Park in Glasgow, and the 2-1 win in 1966 against Partizan Belgrade in Brussels. Pachin formed a strong friendship with Ferenc Puskás. József Tóth, the former Real Madrid youth coach and translator recalls: “When the team played away from home those always shared a room so he certainly knows more about Puskás’ pre-match behaviour than anyone else. At other times as well they got on like a house on
fire, and remained close friends until the very end.”
Redondo Ricardo Gallego was born on 8 February 1959. A midfielder, he played for Real Madrid between 1980 and 1989, and during his career which stretched from 1978 until 1991 he played 423 matches, scoring 31 goals, and amassed 46 international caps for Spain. His first match for Spain happened to be against Hungary, on 24 September 1980, when after a hiatus of 55 years the Spanish national team played once more in Hungary, the match resulting in a 2-2 draw. This won’t be the first time that Gallego has been to the Sóstói Stadion either; he played in the 1984/85 UEFA Cup Final first leg here when the two teams met at the climax of Videoton’s legendary cup run, Madrid winning 3-0. As one can see, his visit is certainly not an everyday occurrence.
