The early threat came from Slovan who were clearly intent on showcasing Slovak youth football on their tournament debut. First Lukas Fekete headed straight at the goalkeeper from Marcel Oravec's cross before Adam Osuch broke free and ran in on goal, only for Puskás Academy goalkeeper Márton Czuczi to block his shot.
István Vincze's side had clearly started slowly but they came back into the game and triallist Viktor Vasas nearly got the opening goal for them, rattling the crossbar from long distance on 27 minutes. Five minutes later the hosts were ahead, Vakulya finding himself clean thorugh, lobbing the ball over Slovan goalkeeper Martin Lach and then heading into an empty net.
Unfortunately though the home team's lead only lasted a matter of seconds, Slovan's Osuch receiving the ball from the right and firing the ball into the bottom right corner of Czuczi's net. In a crazy few minutes the Puskás Academy could have regained the lead twice but first Ivan Klum's shot was blocked and then Vakulya rounded Lach only to see the keeper recover and save.
The second half was much more attritional than the first although the hosts were perhaps the more adventurous, particularly as the half wore on, but in the end neither side could grab a winner. In the penalty shootout afterwards the Puskás Academy missed one spotkick but came through Slovan missed their third and seventh efforts, which all means that the hosts can finish in 2nd place in Group B if Slovan lose against Ferencváros tomorrow.
