László Szalai is satisfied with the results

We have Academy Football as well

13th June 2009.

Budapest Honvéd yesterday became the first team to qualify for Sunday's PUSKÁS―SUZUKI CUP Final.
The coach of the Under 17s, László Szalai, doesn't know yet if we will see Richárd Vernes on the
pitch at the Sostói Stadion because the youngster's red card against Real Madrid leaves the coach
with a decision to make. However, it is certain that Roland Vólent, who was substituted in
yesterday's 3-0 win against Panathinaikos, will be in the team.

László Erdélyi scored twice against Panathinaikos (phot: József Takács) Szalai believes that a contest
between Ferencváros and his Honvéd side in the Final would send a message out to the world that
there is good quality academy football in Hungary.
"Two goals, two wins, seven goals scored. Did you count on such a good start?" we asked László Szalai.
"We trusted that we were going to do well in the first two matches but it would be an
overstatment to say we counted on scoring four goals against Real Madrid. Our team performed well in the league and had a 14-match winning run at one stage. We scored lots of goals; four or five goals per game. These were the signs that indicated we could do well."
"Honvéd are the PUSKÁS―SUZUKI CUP's first finalists this year. Would you prefer to play
Ferencváros or Slovan in the Final?"
"In one way it would be good to play Ferencváros because it would be great to send a message to
the world that there is very good quality academy football in Hungary".
"The hat-trick man against Real Madrid, Roland Vólent, was substituted in the game against
Panathinaikos. Why was that?".
"'Voli' was tired which was why he was substituted. It has been a very long season for us and
every little kick was an extra pain for the players. This was also the case for Voli but he will
play in the Final. I was happy I could bring in in his place László Erdélyi who then scored two
goals."
"One other question about individuals; will the player who scored the winning goal against Real,
Richárd Vernes, play in the Final on Sunday?"
"Soon we will agree on the squad but he will certainly play in some way...
Today's Slovan v Fradi match will decide who you play in the Final. Will Honvéd be there to
study their future opposition?
We have a very full and colourful programme to look forward to on our restday. I don't know yet
if we will have time but if we do  then we'll naturally be there sitting in the stand."
