There was an early chance for Slovan on eight minutes when Peter Drobnak laid the ball back for Boris Turcak but his gentle lob drifted over the crossbar. Nine minutes later Ferencváros had their
first opportunity when Levente Horváth advanced down the right and crossed for Róbert Szentgyörgyi in the centre but his diving header flew wide of the far left post.
 
Ferencváros goalkeeper Péter Gábor was then called into action on 32 minutes to tip over Peter Drobnak's back-post header and Marcel Oravec shot from 25 metres out but his low drive flew wide.
 
The game was destined to end goalless despite the best efforts of Slovan as they chased the win. Boris Turcak drive from 20 metres wasn't struck as cleanly as he would have liked and failed to
trouble Gábor in the Hungarian club's goal, while Alan Kovac's last action before being substituted was to stride forward and fire just wide.
 
Adam Osuch then headed over from close range and Oravec's swerving effort was beaten away by Gábor as Slovan pressed for the vital winning goal, but it wasn't to be and instead it was FTC who
secured first place in Group A and a place in tomorrow's PUSKÁS―SUZUKI CUP Final against Honvéd. Slovan meanwhile will contest the bronze medal match against either Real Madrid or
Panathinaikos tomorrow and Puskàs Akadémia Fehérvár will play for 5th place.
